U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS SAYS PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD FOR PROPOSED
OYSTER FARMS IN DELAWARE'S INLAND BAYS IS NOW OPEN
Public comments must be submitted by no later than February 23, 2015
State Representative Ron Gray (R-Selbyville) and Senator Gerald Hocker (R-Ocean View) are informing their constituents that the U.S Army Corps of Engineers' public comment period for the proposed oyster farms for Delaware's Inland Bays is now open.
The public comment period is the next phase in the process for approving the eight proposed shellfish aquaculture sites in the Inland Bays.
Before DNREC can offer leases for the proposed oyster farms, the Army Corps of Engineers must allow the public the opportunity to submit their concerns in writing within 30 days of posting the Public Notice. The Corps posted the notice for comments on January 21, 2015 and the deadline for submissions is February 23, 2015.
To submit your comments on the aquaculture plan, please send them to the following address:

RE: CENAP-OP-R-Delaware Inland Bays Aquaculture
According to the DNREC's Division of Fish and Wildlife, the Army Corps will review the comments and, based on the findings, will determine if a public hearing on these issues needs to be held in the area. The Corps reportedly will look at any endangered species and navigational channels and how these issues relate to aquaculture and the recreational use of the area.
